Edutainment
One can only guess what the meaning is... he ehe hee. Anyway, it's the concept that I've tried to develop and use when choosing toys, videos and shows for the kids. (Let me confess that I will give in and there is proof by all the non-edutainment toys and videos we have!!!!)
One such edutainment video choice that I've been soo pleased with is LeapFrog's Letter Factory DVD (which was recommended by a friend and she was totally right...thanks!!) It's a video that goes through the whole alphabet phonetically. There is a little song that continues through the whole video that really is catchy and helps to reinforce the content with the kids later. And I think the funniest thing that all of my kids will watch the video over and over....an Educational video. One added bonus was that it was about $10 and not only prepares the kids to read but helps me really know what each sound sounds like, so I can help them learn to read!! (Come on...how many of you know what the "o" sounds like?? It's the vowels that get me the rest are easy!)
This video is a great step after the kids are singing the ABC song and ready to learn the sounds:) After having this video almost 2 weeks my little Christopher (2-yrs old) is already identifying letters better and trying to match sounds with letters.....

We love that DVD too, I think we got it for $6.99 at Costco. We got the next one too the "Talking Words" which is a little advanced for my three year old, but it has a very fun vowel song, and is still a blast to watch.
You are so right about Letter Factory--a friend of mine from church told me about it and I'm amazed how quickly our 4 year old picked up the sounds!
