WFMW: Storing those Little Art Supplies

Finding great ideas every week:) Join in or visit Works For Me Wednesday... temporarily hosted by Rocks in My Dryer.

Although I struggle with giving the kids art projects...

When we do art projects, it seems like we have a bunch of little "leftovers". What's worst is that the little "leftover" supplies get tucked away into the drawers and get forgotten or unused.

Flipping through a Parents magazine I saw a cute little supply organizational system and starting to think that it would work for me.

I liked that everything could be easily seen and used;) And it was almost "pretty":)

Walking into the kitchen days later, I look up and realize that I had a VERY old spice rack! I acquired it from my father over 7 years ago now....

So most of the spices were either used or old!! WAY old! Don't they say you should replace your spices every year????

I got to work dumping all the spices out. Then I washed the containers, lids and shaker-style covers in the dishwasher. A few of the containers went through a couple of cycles to get the spice smell out;)

And since the rack had originally been near cooking spaces... it had some sticky/dingy spots. So I used my Magic Eraser... LOL!! And it cleaned right up:)

The fun part was finding some of our art "leftovers" to put into the containers! We found beads, googly eyes, jewelry twine! As I was finding stuff, I thought that I should include some of our smaller office/school supplies... like paper clips and Anna filled one container with pencil top erasers;)

The next day after placing the "art" rack, I noticed Anna working quietly in the school room!! She had gotten into the beads and was making a bracelet.... it's already at work:)

I have a few more empty containers.... what are some more ideas of little supplies that you think I'd need???? Thinking about glitter?

That is a great idea. I may need to dump my spices out too. They are from when we got married 5 1/2 years ago...

Excellent! You could probably make up some cute labels to print out on your computer, too. :)

I love this idea! You need some sequins! Maybe some little buttons too.

That looks like so much fun! We're always looking for good art storage ideas, especially ones that are accessible to kids and inspire them to create! Great idea.

What a great idea! :) You could also put things like paper clips or other small office supply things there to keep them in one location. I also use beans and left over noodles for art projects. Maybe that would work too :)

Great idea!! That makes me want to look for a spice rack the next time I'm at a thrift store.
