Must have gotten just quiet enough at naptime today because when we woke the praying mantises had started to emerged.... there were tons of them coming out of the little egg case!!!
Lydia and Chris really liked watching them!!
Here are more pictures so you cn see what they looked like and how FULL the "cage" was. The pictures are a little blurry because of the screen:)
Once Daddy is finished mowing the lawn we will decide how many to keep and how many to release. The directions tell us to release all but 1-2. We have an extra "cage" from the butterfly project we did in August so we might be able to keep another. But we have to feed them insects... which will add to the adventure around here:)
Ok, Nate!!! The pressure is ON (literally, too)!!!
Our to-do list is finished..... we're just waiting on you (and the carpet upstairs)!!!

wow that is pretty cool, I'm not a big fan of bugs but this project sounds fun!!!
So you feels Nate down a lot today, praying that he is making you dilating some more!!!
Yikes! That's a lot of them!
SO cool. Where the heck did you get the stuff to do that?? My kids would LOVE it!!
Katrina - it's actually a company clled insectlore.com!!! We have used their butterfly kits and now the praying mantis.... they have all sorts of really cool science stuff for all ages:)
And Insect LOre is doing a giveaway on SIMPLE soon:) So stayed tuned for that!!! But I find that they're products are VERY reasonably priced AND are guaranteed - so you get your money back if the don't hatch or turn into butterflies:)
Aw! I remember doing this when I was little! Your kids will have such good memories of this project.
You are a brave mom! The thought of having all those praying mantises in my house gives my chills! But I have a boy so I guess I need to get used to it.
I have to admit-when I saw your post title I totally thought you were referring to baby Nate showing up today and my hear skipped a beat! Hopefully very soon!
