1st Reaction... it can be Scary

With mixed emotions we saw this.

A reaction....

Nate's first official reaction (see the hives)....

to eggs.... one egg baked into a whole pan of cornbread that we let Nate try.

I guess we're not surprised.... each one of our children have food allergies, why should Nate be any different! And we're definitely more aware of how to bake and manage an egg allergy since Chris and Lydia also are egg allergy kids!

But it's very disappointing too.... he could have been our ONE child without food allergies!! The one spared!

Again though.... with each reaction, we are soo very thankful that it was mild! Nate obviously was ok and loving the extra attention. The rash and hives stuck around for minutes, not even an hour.... of course it seemed longer for this Momma.

Food allergies are just soo scary and sometimes unpredictable! And they affect EVERYTHING my children will think of touching and tasting!

Here's a scary article shared by a friend... Seventh-grader dies of Food Allergy! So sad... but a reminder of what food allergy kids and families face and fear! And the need of others to be AWARE and EDUCATED more about food allergies.... the "dangerous" foods, the warning signs of a reaction and anaphylaxis!!

You can find some other picture posts at 5 Minutes for Mom, Go Graham Go, To Be Thode and any other linkys I find !!!

AWARENESS.

Poor baby :( My nephew is allergic to egg whites. Abby is allergic to tree nuts, but her last blood test in August showed the levels are starting to come down a bit. She is now only allergic to cashews and pistachios, however we are still avoiding them all.

Oh my goodness! Thank you for sharing this with us. I am thinking about starting Davis on a little bit of cereal this weekend. I guess cereal is a whole different ball park than eggs, but still.. it is important to remember to be cautious.

I know it has to be hard to have all children with food allergies. The doctors are thinking Davis may have a milk allergy so I have been limiting my own dairy intake and it is SO hard to do! Everything has dairy!

I so understand.... my youngest daughter is severely allergic to all parts of egg. She starts Kindergarten next year and I am terrified. Putting that trust in someone else is something I have a hard time doing. Her hives had her looking like a burn victim and hospitalization for a week. Very scary.
Blessings to you and your family

I'm glad it was only a mild reaction. Perhaps it will be something he will outgrow.

Happy WW! He's gorgeous regardless of the hives :)

This is what my 3rd child looks like after eating peanut but he is 'sensitive' to eggs as well. I am just assuming that our 5th will have food allergies as well.
While it is very dissappointing & often frustrating when trying to keep our kids safe, I am reminded to be thankful for the health that they have AND that this is at least something that we moms & dads have a bit of control over, right?

Hopefully yours will grow out of them as some do!
