Thirsting for MORE

I feel like I've been through such a dry spell in my spiritual walk...

I compare my spiritual habits/disciplines and activities right now to just a few years ago when I was in college and my first year of seminary...

I am thankful for those "filling" seasons when I was able to set apart sweet times of prayer, fasting and study. Worship and fellowship. Leading, sharing and being fed. I always remember still wanting more!

And now.... whoa! Life is just non-stop until I crash for a few minutes only to hear, "Mommmmmmmm" again a minute or two later!!

Oh, it's a sweet sound.... well it usually is;)... but there is NO break until they sleep and that's when housework and preparations for the next day occur... only to attempt to break again just before bedtime when reading or thinking and praying quickly becomes snoozing :(

And that's when I am doubly thankful for those "filling" years... the years I thought I was being prepared to serve on the mission field overseas... maybe in an orphanage or other children's ministry or teaching???

Silly me!

The Lord was preparing me and "filling" me to be the wife of Brian and the mom to Anna, Chris, Lydia and Nate:) And while it seems like a simple enough task... it's NOT... I should have spend more time being "filled" for this awesome task and amazing season.

But now what I am most thankful for are the sweet and quick moments I get in the Lord... they often are not the sitting at a table wrestling with the meanings of passages of Scripture, but rather

SOAKING in a song, a set of verses, a passage written in a devotion or
CALLING out for wisdom and comfort (for myself and others) and trying to

After each "moment", I am left with that longing, that longing for MORE!!

We taste Thee, O Thou Living Bread,
And long to feast upon Thee still:

We drink of Thee, the Fountainhead
And thirst our souls from Thee to fill.

- St Bernard quoted in The Pursuit of God by Tozer

And it brings me such peace!! That no matter how "dry" I feel some days, the Lord is right there ready to "fill me up" again! Even the feeling of thirsting for more of the Lord reminds me that I am His child wanting to be in His presence.

I am His child no matter how separated I can "feel"!

The message of Galatians 4:6
"And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”
