Our Schoolroom...

Not Back to School Blog Hop

So I've been MAJORly cleaning and organizing the schoolroom (after my kids took it over while I recovered from being super preggo and giving birth)!! While I have most of the organization and tidiness completed there are still some things that I'd still like to complete before we start school.... like curtains and a desk I already have picked out!

But it's very functional right now, so we could definitely start without my last projects;)

This is the view as we walk in!! I LOVE our big table where we do most of our work.... we got it from Craigslist a year ago and Brian totally scrubbed out the smoke smell and re-upholstered the seats... tons of hours! but a great desk! And it being used we're not freaked out about marks,etc... but it's already last one year and been perfect for us:)

And YES... we store markers, crayons and stickers in wipes boxes:)

I stole this bookshelf from Chris' room!!! I really wanted all of our games and our preschool activities in the schoolroom for Lydia to use! We've actually used these more now that they are next to the table where they'd be played:)

The baskets will hold activities and will eventually all be labeled when I know what will be in them:)

The bottom is storing some file boxes I had from when I student taught! The boxes and files are in GREAT condition.... I'm debating about using the "workbox" system with the kids' independent work, so I'd just use the file instead. Or I could use the files for organizing materials that I photocopy for the kids.

Our schoolroom is blessed with bookshelves that go to the ceiling with cabinets underneath:) So I have really tried to use my space well.... TRIED!!
Since this shelf is closest to the table, it houses all of our daily resources!

The bottom shelf will have Anna's binders and three stacks of books... one stack for each kiddo:) So their daily workbooks will stay in one spot and can be put back in one stack... we'll see how it goes!
This shelf has our reading books, encyclopedias, TAG system, my work station (my laptop fits on the shelf) & resources! And the penny jars... we'll see if we work with the jars again this year!

On the floor is my "library bag"! We keep all the books in the bag at all times except when we read them and turn them in! We lost TWOOO many library books this last year.... so we're NOT going to loose any of this year. OH, and I lost my library card last year too (maybe it's with the books....lol!!).... anyway, the bag has a zip pocket so the card can STAY in the bag too;)

Here is the empty wall.... actually I am planning to get a desk there! It will be our computer desk and we'll have more storage for paper supplies as well as some hanging folders that will house future activities and seasonal supplies that I have already been collecting;)

I'm also planning to make these clipboards to "show off" some of the kids work:) So those will go onto the wall:)
Here is the little table that Chris refers to as "my desk"! I've debated about moving it to their playroom.... but Chris works really well during independent work when he's away from everything else going on! He focuses better, knows he works better there and LIKES his own space;) So it might have to stay:)

I've only included our "school room"!! We also love reading on the couch in the living room or the girls' bedroom. And we often also work outside... when possible or the project is messy:)

As you can tell from the pictures, my kids like the room all cleaned up! They have been all over the room and into everything again....

Hoping our room can stay tidy and manageable.... especially since by Christmas we could have a crawling kiddo adding to the fun during schooltime;)

I have really enjoyed looking through the other school rooms/spaces so far at heart of the matter:) Lots of great ideas!
