Nate, is that you?

Well, after enjoying the curly locks...
we thought it was time they said "goodbye"!
IMG_0376

One of the older kids saw him after and asked,"Is that even Nate?" LOL!

IMG_0368I know part of waiting to cut his hair was us wanting to hold onto Nate as a "little guy" a little longer. But the extra hair was getting to be hassle... trying to convince a 2 yr old he needed to be still to condition his locks at each hair washing was getting old., for him and us;)

Anyway, he looks years older especially in all of Chris' 3T hand-me-downs that we had to get out for him this week...

oh, and that he's been working on potty training this week. Now you know why the blog has been a little quiet:)LOL!!

He's getting too big!

I guess I'm ready? I'm not sure we're ever really ready for our little ones to grow up although we know that another fun stage is around the corner;)

*I'm NOT a hairstylist and am definitely NOT claiming to be one. In fact, after the 3rd big chop I thought I was going to have to find some professional help... LOL!!! I want to trim a little more in a few places (I'm sure you see them too) to clean it up a little more;)

But overall, we like it;)

Double Donation (no more BUN)

Definitely time for a TRIM or a CHOP!!
IMG_8994

We've been putting off getting our hair cut until we could visit Aunt Jaclyn's salon. The girls would have NO ONE else touch their hair. I was holding off to have enough to donate to Locks of Love and have some thing left to work with:)

Lydia went first.
IMG_9000
Lydia chose her own hair style... she asked specifically for bangs.

And then a BIG CHOP for Anna!
IMG_8998
Anna had 10 inches cut off in those first minutes!!!

IMG_8999
I thought it was funny that she immediately started feeling for her hair again!
Anna's ending style! She looked so grown... seriously, a teenager already? LOL!!
IMG_9005

And then it was my turn!! I'd really had been looking forward to going, just ask Brian! He was GLAD to finally get me to my sister:) LOL!

We took about 12 inches off my head!! It was wonderful!!! I love my hair and have already adjusted to the new morning hair routine which is MUCH easier and faster.... NO more school-marm-ish bun!!!

IMG_9032

IMG_9035This is a little strange to post...

but our hair measured:)

This is Anna's 2nd time donating her hair to Locks of Love! I know she was a little hesitant to go through with a big CHOP, again! I left the decision up to her and at the end she was pleased. See her first donation/hair cut story here.

And I was thrilled to be able to donate, too!! I have done it in the past but I've had the "I need to cut my hair TODAY" itch for about 6 months.... it's been a long "hair" 6 months;) LOL!!

A super big thanks to my talented sister.... being patient with the girls and I and even working on her day off while pregnant! I know... she was super sweet! And Brian!! He watched the kids and meet up with us here and there to make it all work out for everyone! Thanks for being soo flexible, sacrificial and  willing!! And my parents who continue to take care of us and love on us... definitely demonstrating that we never really grown out of being parents!!

The Curls are Gone :(

IMG_8820-1His curls appeared a few months ago... just some sweet little curls around his ears:) Precious!

And then they became beautiful...

all coiled around his neckline;)

The few months of having a little boy with gorgeous, crazy hair and strangers always asking if my baby was a "girl or boy" went too fast! Too fast!

While I WANTED the angelic hair to stay a little longer... I just loved those crazy curls on that sweet baby head.... I knew the time was coming when they had to go!!

One reason was that his hair was really long and needed a trim:)Not just the back...
IMG_8819-1

IMG_8959

But the front, too!
IMG_8925

I tried to trim some in the front, but it looked really bad being short in the front and sooo long in the back :(

So we had to go for the BIG cut!!
IMG_8968

After that, the curls were gone :(

Far from a glamorous salon, Nate's first haircut (not Mommy's needed trims) was done on a Saturday morning in a dry bathtub by Daddy and Mommy taking turns trimming and entertaining Nate... mostly using a lollipop:)

IMG_8975

He did well:)

And then after seeing him for hours, we stuck him BACK into the tub to trim and try to shape his hair a little more... to get the "final" cut!!

IMG_9177

Yes, it's a little bittersweet to see the curls gone. It was one more symbol of the "baby days" slipping by and a little boy emerging!

Lydia's Big Chop

Ever since her first (and last) trim, my little Lydia has been asking to get her hair cut "to my ears".

Why?... you may ask! Because she is tired of having to brush it.... LOL!! Obviously, I have attempted to begin to teach her some personal hygiene and hair care... but caring for super long hair lands on Mommie when you are only 4:)

Lydia was serious about getting her hair cut:) As we loaded into the van - Lydia, myself and my sister, Aunt Jac - Lydia was sure to mention that she wanted to be the first to get her haircut (I would have to wait for her!!).

So here is Lydia's BIG chop;)

The BEFORE : (unbrushed and just out of a bun!)

The After:

Smiling with the donation  {real}

That last picture is actually before {real}!! As we were heading out of the salon, the hair started coming out of the band.... we had a mess of hair all over the floor :(

We scooped up and shook out what we could... but I need to look into whether any hair donation place will take her locks... even if I try to straighten them??? Learn from us and secure that hair tight if you want your child to hold it :/

Anyway, it's super adorable!! The little girl bob, looks soo cute on her;) And best of all she likes it;)

PhotobucketIt was definitely fun to have an afternoon out and about with Lydia and Aunt Jac;) I got some pampering, too! And then we headed over to Trader Joe's... what a treat to bring home soy ice cream sandwiches for the kids:)

Anna also had a "big chop" a few years ago when she was 5 and was able to donate it;) If you wanted to make a comparison... here is Anna's BIG snip from Aug 2009!!

Linking up to Wordful Wednesday @ and then, she snapped.

Stay tuned.... Haircut for Lydia coming Soon

Lydia has been asking for her hair to be cut SHORT, really SHORT;)

I asked her why she wanted it short and she responded that she doesn't like brushing her long hair;) LOL!!

Sounds to me like it's time to cut it... short;)

I'll try to post some pictures as soon as I can:)

Nate's 1st Trim

Nate has been needing a trim for a while...

I just have been trying to "wade it out" hoping his hair would get long enough to "blend in"...

But this morning, with a lack of humidity in the house... all the curls in the front fell and left little Nate trying to keep his hair out of his face.

I did try a quick fix for a sticky pancake breakfast.
(wouldn't he have made a super cute girl??? just kidding!)
IMG_6662IMG_6676

Obviously my little boy can't be wearing hairbows... so I called my mom and sister to figure out a plan. I know to distract the little ones during haircuts with videos or treats:) And I knew I needed some scissors and water to keep his hair "slightly damp"... aka manageable;) But it's the HOW to cut that had been stalling me the most!!

My mom tried to help and my hairstylist sister didn't answer... LOL!!
I was determined to cut his hair!

I gathered his hair by rectangular chunks and started cutting
(i should say trimming)!

IMG_6680

He wasn't entertained by sitting on the push toy going NO WHERE...
so there was a little game of chase;)

I was walking, not running with the scissors... sorry the pic looked dangerous;)
IMG_6683

We finally found the perfect "still" spot for him. On the bench with a Popsicle, his brother and pointed at the street to watch the trucks and cars race by:)
IMG_6688

I'm NOT a stylist... but I think we did well;)
IMG_6692

IMG_6697

You can see it's not straight across. I really didn't want it to be since he usually has it pushed to the side OR its curled up... gotta love humidity curls.

And there is a piece in the pic on the right that has since been trimmed to be a little more even;)

Oh, and he was super still with the popsicle. It was very messy!!! You can tell in this picture that he ENJOYed it;)

You might even see in these "final" pictures the HAIR that was stuck on him... he didn't mind;)

And his newest battle wounds... from trying to take on the driveway :(

Definitely bathtime ;)

But first,
we had to be sure everyone knew that no curls were injured during the trim;)

The Trim that Happened

Well Thursday afternoon we headed to a local salon to get Lydia and my hair cut... or I should say trimmed!!

When we pulled up, I thought the plan might have to change to just one of us getting a haircut. Lydia was not wanting to go in the store:) LOL... I seriously thought she wasn't going to do it.

I was thankful that the hair stylist was soo understanding. She immediately said that she wasn't interested in MAKING her get a haircut... I firmly agreed:)

I went first and Lydia just stood around and watched EVERYTHING!! Then she warmed up a bit and actually sat in a chair offered by the stylist so she could sit next to me:)

When my turn was over, I asked Lydia if she was ready. I did remind her of the prize awaiting her... her very own Sonic Slushy... usually they split them since the kids are little and usually can't finish the whole one on their own! It was enough....

The SOOC pics tell the story:)

She did an EXCELLENT job!! I was soo proud of her;) I loved how she immediately checked her hair to feel how much had been cut off;) And it wasn't much... just enough to get the dead ends off and have the experience!!

Within the hour as we were walking through Walmart together, so she could spend a gift card she had from her birthday, Lydia asked if she could get her haircut again next week:) LOL!! Too cute!!

I also thought it was cute that she bought items with her gift card that she could share with Anna and Chris... a pack of gum and a movie she thought they would like, too! And yes, she even shared her coveted Sonic Slushy with her siblings!! Such a sweetie!
